The Northland Aquatics Facilities Plan (2023) identified that the Kaipara East area has the most limited level of pool provision in Te Tai Tokerau, where the Mangawhai area is the key growth area. The shortage of pool space is projected to grow significantly if no further aquatic space is provided.  

The Northland Aquatics Plan identified a shortage of available water space in Kaipara Central. Sport Northland therefore commissioned this pre-feasibility report to investigate options to increase access to water space in the Otamatea area. 

The Queenstown Lakes District Sports Field Plan was developed to provide a district-wide, coordinated approach to the provision of sports fields and assist decision makers in identifying future investment priorities.  

Sport and recreation play an important role in the social fabric of the Chatham Islands (also known as Rekohu or Wharekauri). The remoteness of the Islands calls for the community to band together and sport and recreation offer a positive medium for this to occur.  The purpose of this Plan is to outline the future focus areas for facilities that will help to ensure those living on the Chatham Islands can participate in and enjoy sport and recreation activities.  

Since the 2016 National Facility Strategy, Hockey New Zealand (HNZ) has transformed significantly. In 2022, HNZ launched the ‘Taking Our Game Forward’ National Strategic Direction, focusing on opening and growing the game and guiding the community towards this new vision. The approach to the 2024 National Hockey Spaces and Places Strategy is a departure from previous strategies. There is a desire to have a more holistic view of hockey participation and to make the sport accessible to all, which means hockey in New Zealand needs to take a different approach. 

This Plan was developed to guide the future provision of aquatic facilities in the Whanganui District. The Plan considers Whanganui District Council (WDC) facilities along with other facilities that could be available for community use.  The investment required to develop, operate and maintain aquatic facilities is significant. Therefore, WDC needed to consider the best value for money option or options for aquatic provision moving forward. 

The Taranaki Aquatic Facility Network Plan aims to understand the current and future demand and supply of aquatic facilities in the region and make recommendations to ensure the network of facilities is fit for purpose.  The Network Plan considered the provision of all aquatic facilities across the three Taranaki Council areas, including, but not limited to, learn to swim (all ages), competitive swimming and aquatic recreation and sport needs across the region.  

Tasman District Council had been working with the Waimea South Community Hub Steering Group on a project to develop a multi-purpose community facility that would serve both the Brightwater and Wakefield communities.

Blenheim Gymnastics Club is the sole provider of gymsports in the Marlborough region and currently operates from a Marlborough District Council owned facility. The existing building is aging and presents a number of challenges, including its location and suitability for the Club’s needs. In response, the Club Committee has committed to investigating long-term facility options that would provide a permanent, fit-for-purpose home.

Christchurch City Council are partnering with Ngāti Wheke in the redevelopment of the 9-hectare Naval Point–Te Nukutai o Tapoa recreation reserve in Lyttelton. This reclaimed coastal area is home to a range of land and water-based sports groups and features the only deep-water boat ramp available to the public in Greater Christchurch.

The University of Waikato sought to explore potential options for the future of its UniRec facility, driven by multiple key factors and a strong desire for change. To support this initiative, RSL conducted a comprehensive investigation into the desired future state of UniRec, focusing on membership trends, facility usage, and stakeholder needs.

Following the development of a master plan for the Eastlink Trust, which identified several new sport facility opportunities for the site, including a gymsport facility, Turn and Gymnastics Circle commissioned a detailed feasibility study for a new build gymnastics facility.

The purpose of the report was to provide an independent Needs Assessment regarding the status and requirements of canoe polo in Papaioea Palmerston North. The report provides key stakeholders with insights into the current and future needs and facility requirements of canoe polo (along with other potential complementary users) in the area.

The purpose of this report was to provide an independent assessment of the needs and feasibility of developing a new sports field and clubroom/amenity facility for the Tihirau Victory Sports Club (TVC) and the Whangaparāoa community of Te Whānau ā Apanui.

This report was commissioned to research the need for multi-use indoor and covered outdoor courts in the city. The purpose was to identify potential multi-use indoor courts and covered outdoor court development opportunities in Palmerston North to meet current and future sport and recreation activity needs.

RSL led the delivery of the project, with direction and guidance provided by a regional Project Steering Group.

Snow Sports New Zealand (SSNZ) engaged RSL to undertake a feasibility study to determine the potential for developing a dry slope facility for snow sports athletes.

Bowls Warkworth commissioned a feasibility study to determine the need, scope, and financial costs for the development of a new bowls and community facility.

The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board Sport and Active Recreation Plan aimed to provide a targeted and aligned approach to facility planning and investment.  

Selwyn District Council (SDC) has for several years collected participation data from key sports.

Taupō Squash Club (TSC) commissioned Recreation Sport and Leisure Consultancy (RSL) to undertake an independent feasibility study on the development of a new facility In Taupō.  

The Cheviot Cricket Club is a small amateur cricket club based at the Cheviot Hills Reserve in Cheviot, North Canterbury.

Whangārei District Council (WDC) identified the need to develop a strategy for the future provision of indoor and outdoor sports courts. RSL Consultancy worked with a project steering group consisting of representatives from both WDC and Sport Northland.

The purpose of this Strategy was to identify the current and future aquatic facility needs for Te Tai Tokerau. The development of this Strategy was a key recommendation from Kōkiri ai Te Waka Hourua; the regional play, active recreation and sport strategy which was developed in 2021. The Strategy included aquatic facilities that have community access or school pools.  

He rā ki tua, the refreshed Horizons Region Spaces and Places Plan for Sport and Recreation, represents a significant step forward in how partners lead, collaborate on, and advocate for the quality planning and provision of spaces and places across the Horizons region. 

Waimakariri District Council commissioned RSL to develop a Community Facility Network Plan that would provide a framework to guide community facility decision-making over the following 20 years.  

Tasman District Council and Tapawera Connect jointly engaged Recreation Sport and Leisure Consultancy to investigate the feasibility of a new multi-use community centre for Tapawera following a strong level of previous support in the community for a new community facility.  

RSL was commissioned to undertake a feasibility study to understand the need for a youth centre, or network of centres, as a proactive response to supporting rangatahi across Tauranga City.
