Blenheim Gymnastics Club

Date: July 2024 – February 2005
Client: Blenheim Gymnastics Club

Project Description

Blenheim Gymnastics Club is the sole provider of gymsports in the Marlborough region and currently operates from a Marlborough District Council owned facility. The existing building is aging and presents a number of challenges, including its location and suitability for the Club’s needs. In response, the Club Committee has committed to investigating long-term facility options that would provide a permanent, fit-for-purpose home.

In parallel with this, the Club, historically run entirely by volunteers, wanted to explore the financial feasibility of transitioning to a paid operating model. This would involve moving towards paid coaching staff and key administrative roles to support the Club’s sustainability and growth.

RSL’s Role

RSL lead the development of the feasilbility study in collaboration with the Project Steering Group. A number of group and face to face interviews were held alongside a comprehensive review of secondary data, including club trends, current facility challenges, spatial requirements and a options assessment to inform the feasibility assessment.

Project Outcome

The final report provided details of three options for a purpose-built facility where equipment could be permantley set up. These options ranged from purpose built stand-alone facility, to a temporary sprung structure, and the leasing of and conversion of an existing warehouse style building.

The study provided an operating model for the Club that allowed for the move to a paid structure, in conjunction with a move to a new gymsports facility.
