Project Description

RSL provided an independent needs assessment and options for sports club rooms on Kilbirnie Park. These club rooms will be impacted by the NZTA's proposed road widening of Wellington Road. The advice provided considered options for redevelopment, facility sharing with Toitū Pōneke, or a mixture of other solutions outside of the Park. Kilbirnie Park is a busy open space with large aquatic facility, sports fields and soon to be developed skate park.

RSL's Role

RSL was engaged by Wellington City Council acting as an independent and objective advisor.

Project Outcome

RSL's recommendations favoured an integration of the club activities in an extended partnership with Toitū Pōneke. This leveraged planned gender-neutral changing room upgrades to Tōitu Pōneke and recognised the seasonal opportunities for cricket in particular to leverage the existing facilities on the site.
