Mothers Day With A Spade

You've got to love a good working bee. 🐝

On Sunday we had the opportunity to participate in a community planting day. A new bike skills area has been developed; a partnership between Environment Canterbury and our local cycling club. It would have been so easy to just sleep in, or say we were too busy. However, a key motivation for getting out the door was the power of a group working together.

It may have been a disaster if only 5 people turned up to plant the 900 native plants around the skills park. But the sense of community prevailed. At a guess over 50 people attended – on Mothers Day! In the Morning! A huge pakipaki to the mother of my children who swapped breakfast in bed for a spade and planting gloves. Thank goodness we weren’t the only ones to attend, or we may very well still be there – the power of community participation.
